Today is R U OK? Day, which is a national initiative aiming to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
Statistics show 65,000 people attempt suicide each year. It is the biggest killer of Australian men under the age of 44.
R U OK? Day is designed to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them, and support anyone who may be struggling with life. It aims to tackle the issue of suicide and try to stop feelings of loneliness and isolation among family members, friends and workmates by staying connected and having regular, meaningful conversations.
The initiative also tries to reduce the stigma around mental illness and encourage people to seek professional help and support.
How you can get involved –
Bankstown Sports and its associated venues are proud to support R U OK? Day and will be encouraging our staff and patrons to get behind this great campaign.
